Kufuor to deliver 2nd Liberty Lecture
His Excellency, Former President John Agyekum
Kufuor, will on Thursday, 16th August 2012,
deliver the second edition of the Liberty Lecture
organized by policy and governance think tank, the
Danquah Institute.

President Kufuor's lecture will be held at the
Accra International Conference Centre with guests
expected to be seated by 6pm. The theme for the
lecture is “Development in Freedom: Empowering the
people to develop the nation” and is open to the
general public.

In an interview with the Head of Research of the
Danquah Institute, Nana Attobrah Quaicoe, he told
the New Statesman that the lecture had originally
been scheduled to take place on the 2nd of August
but had to be rescheduled due to the death of
President Mills.

According to Nana Attobrah, the former President
will use the occasion to outline why he and the
New Patriotic Party believe “Development in
Freedom” is the model of progress and development
for the rest of Africa and the World.

“The vision of the New Patriotic Party, which is
shared by present and past leaders, is to spread
the benefits of private ownership and prosperity
to the majority of citizens, not just a rich and
privileged few; to democratise the opportunity to
accumulate capital as a meaningful way of ensuring
the dignity and security of each individual. This
is what the former President will seek to
address,” Nana Attobrah said.

The guest of honour for the occasion will be Madam
Ama Busia, who is sister to the late Prime
Minister of Ghana, Dr K.A Busia.

It is recalled that Nana Akufo-Addo delivered the
maiden edition of the liberty lecture, which was
Nana Addo's first major policy statement on
Ghanaian soil since his election as NPP flagbearer
in August 2010 and was on the theme “Building a
society of aspirations and opportunities in Ghana
– the path to prosperity.”

Members of the public who would want any
information on the event can contact the Danquah
Institute on 024 499 5382 or 024 414 5993.
