President Mahama Thanks All Ghanaians, Urges Greater Unity
President John Dramai Mahama has thanked all
Ghanaians for the unity displayed when the country
bade farewell to the late Professor John Evans
Atta Mills.

In a nation-wide broadcast Wednesday night,
President Mahama said, he felt very proud as a
Ghanaian for what he described as 'our impressive
show of unity.'

The President said while some people believe that
the unity displayed when the nation grieved, was
transient, he did not share in that belief because
Ghanaians have shown exemplary aptitude for peace
and unity.

He noted for example that while other nations had
allowed religious intolerance to degenerate into
violence, Ghanaians rather celebrate unity in
diversity by extending good wishes to each other
during different religious festivities.

President Mahama noted that the reason why we have
remained united and tolerate each other is because
“we have never allowed our different identities
and opinions to overshadow our patriotism as
Ghanaians.”

He said there had been times when we seemed to
have forgotten this but noted that the past three
weeks had reminded us over and over again.

He propped everybody on to take advantage of the
country’s renewed unity brought on by Professor
Mills’ death and build on the legacy left behind
by him and those who served before him,' adding
that the best tribute we can give to the late
President Mills would be to continue the flame of
peace.

President Mahama called on all politicians to also
build on the prevailing unity by conducting clean
campaigns and encouraged the larger population to
help tap the rich resources of the country to spur
its further development.

He said, whereas the country had made some
strides, some areas lacked the factors of
production that would facilitate improved living
and announced that in the next two weeks, he would
present an agenda towards that purpose.

President Mahama told the country’s young people
that they could, even as individuals, become
active partners in the effort to create a better
Ghana.

He therefore encouraged them to believe in
themselves, do things innovatively and
differently, adding that greater success is within
our grasp.

On the upcoming elections, President Mahama
pledged to use all his efforts to secure peace and
security for the polls. graphic.com.gh
