President Mills' last assignment was the commissioning of the Millennium City School on 18th July, 2012 before he passed on 24th July, 2012.

AMA names High Street, Millenium School after Prez Mills
The Accra Metropolitan Assembly has named the
Accra High Street and the new Millennium City
School at the Salvation Army Cluster of Schools,
after late former President John Evans Atta Mills.


At an emergency meeting by the Assembly on Monday
to pass a resolution of change of name, the
Assembly concluded that the Accra High Street
should be called “Evans Atta Mills Street”, while
the Salvation Army Cluster of Schools as will now
be known as “President Evans Atta Mills
Educational Center of Excellence”.

Addressing the members of the Assembly, Mayor of
the City Dr. Alfred Oko Vanderpuije said the
changes will take effect even before the former
President’s mortal remains are laid to rest on the
10th August 2012.

According to Dr. Vanderpiuje, the Assembly passed
the resolutions in recognition of the fallen
Ghanaian leader’s immeasurable contribution to
improve the social and economic infrastructural
facilities within the Accra Metropolis.

He said the change of names is also in recognition
of the fact that, the late President’s last
official public engagement was the commissioning
of the Millennium City School on 18th July 2012
before his demise.

To further cement the Assembly’s commitment to
recognizing the deeds of the late president, some
members proposed that a statue of Professor John
Evans Atta Mills be erected around the National
Lottery Authority area to serve as a permanent
reminder of his tenure as President of Ghana.

Some also suggested that the Salvation Army
cluster of schools should be transformed into an
ultra-modern centre of learning to reflect the
quest for academic excellence espoused by Prof
Mills.

Later, Mayor Alfred Vanderpuye, Presiding Member
Desmond Addo Biney and other officials of the
Accra Metropolitan Assembly signed the Book of
Condolence opened at the International Conference
Centre.
