Pay attention to women; Upper West women tell Mahama
Women groups in the Upper West Region have lauded
the smooth transition of power from president
Mills to president Mahama without a hitch.

They have therefore congratulated John Dramani
Mahama on his assumption to the throne as the
National Chief Executive of the country and called
on him to pay prior attention to the activities of
women in the country.

They made the call when they called on the Upper
West Regional Minister, Ambassador Amin Amidu
Sulemani at his office in Wa.

The women most of whom were clad in black long
gowns and draped in red mufflers said women forms
over 51.1% of the country’s population and they
expect a lot from president Mahama to better their
lots because they belong to the vulnerable group.

The women led by the Upper West Regional Director
of the department of women, Madam Kate bob Miller
said they wish to add their voice also to the many
voices in expressing their heartfelt sympathies to
the government on the demise of president John
Evans Atta Mills.

They requested the regional minister to send their
condolences to the immediate family of the late
president more especially to Dr. Mrs. Naadu Mills
for the irreplaceable loss of her husband.

‘‘Death has not only robbed her but the whole
nation at large of gem. Hon. Regional Minister, we
wish to assure that she is not alone in this
grief. We are spiritually and physically with her
in all her sorrows and we deeply share all the
heartaches at this turbulent period of her life.

Do not throw your hands in despair. Mama, draw
your tears and all shall be well,’’ the women
added.

The concluded by calling on Ghanaians to sustain
the current unity and maintain peace before,
during and after the December general elections.

The Upper West Regional Minister, Ambassador Amin
Amidu Sulemani thanked the women for their concern
saying the government will continue to recognize
the important role women play in our society.

‘‘Certainly no body will ignore that you are in
the majority. What is due you naturally government
will ensure that you get your due share as our
mothers of our land,’’ the Minister said.
