Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition pays tribute to Mills
STATEMENT FROM GACC ON THE DEATH OF H. E. PROF.
EVANS ATTA MILLS

It is with great shock and a heavy heart that the
Executive Council of Ghana Anti-Corruption
Coalition learnt of the sudden death of President
J.E. Atta Mills.

Our hearts and our prayers are with the former
First Lady, Dr. Mrs. Ernestina Naadu Mills, the
family of the late President and the entire people
of Ghana in this difficult moment.

The events after the demise of H. E. President
John Evans Atta Mills should unite all Ghanaians
from the entire political divide to uphold the
rule of law and exhibit Ghana as a country that
has come of age in its democratic process.

We wish to recall the President’s responsiveness
to the Coalition’s request that institutions of
state (CHRAJ & EOCO) should investigate the Maybey
and Johnson and Woyome cases.

These processes although not yet completed,
indicated his trust in the institutions of state
to operate in a transparent and accountable
environment.

Additionally, during his Presidency, the
Anti-Corruption Lobby through collaborative work
developed a National Anti-Corruption Action Plan
(NACAP) to provide a guide to track and measure
our strategies in minimizing corruption in Ghana.

We further note that one of the last public
functions of the President on Friday July 20th was
the swearing in of the third Deputy Commissioner
of CHRAJ to fulfill the constitutional requirement
of three Commissioners to run the Commission on
Human Rights and Administrative Justice
effectively on its three fold mandates.

We believe that this indicated his commitment to
ensuring that the institution has the requisite
leadership for effective work.

Whilst we take pride in the smooth and peaceful
transfer of power to H. E. President John Dramani
Mahama, we wish to encourage him to promote and
intensify the fight against corruption without
fear or favour.

May the Soul of H. E. John Evans Atta Mills rest
in PERFECT PEACE
