Deputy Energy Minister, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah. Gov't assures fishermen of sufficient premix fuel for fishing season Fishermen in the country have been assured of
sufficient premix fuel for this year’s fishing
season.
According to the Deputy Minister of Energy in
charge of Petroleum, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah,
plans are in place to ensure that enough premix
fuel is made available for operators in the
fisheries sector.
The minister gave the assurance when the National
Premix Committee (NPC) and stakeholders in the
premix sector called on him at the Ministry on
Thursday, June 28, 2012.
He tasked the National Petroleum Authority (NPA)
to design safety standards to be adhered to by
local landing beach committees to prevent
accidents.
He used the occasion to express regret and
sympathy to the victims of the recent premix
explosion which claimed some lives at the Nzema
East district.
The Chairman of the NPC, Kwaku Nicole, on his
part, said they expected a bumper harvest this
season and urged the minister to increase the
volume of premix fuel delivered to them during
this fishing season, saying that the 120 trucks
per week should be upped to 150 trucks per week.
Buah directed the request to the Distribution
Manager of the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR), John
Sapara-Grant, who said he would discuss it with
Management for appropriate action.
