IDEG warns EC not to allow itself to be pushed to do blanket extension registrat
The Institute for Democratic Governance (IDEG) is
asking the Electoral Commission not to allow
itself to be pushed into a wholesale extension of
the 40-day biometric registration exercise.

IDEG suggests the EC should rather consider very
carefully limited extension with key stakeholders
for centres that experienced extensive days of "no
registration" due to equipment breakdown.

IDEG is also asking the Police Service to swiftly
investigate and expedite action on all reported
cases of violence especially in areas such as
Odododiodio, Asunafo South, Tain, Techiman among
others and prosecute culprits without fear or
favour.

These were contained in a release by IDEG on
Wednesday, based on an interim report submitted by
its team of observers dispatched to 30
constituencies to monitor the ongoing registration
exercise.

IDEG was however satisfied with progress made at
most centres in registering eligible voters for
the 2012 elections with most centres achieving
daily targets of about a 100 people after the
hitches of the first three days.

This IDEG noted, is evidenced by the nearly ten
million people that have so far been registered.

It also praised the EC in the priority and
attention given to the aged, PWDs, pregnant women
and nursing mothers to register
