Matthew Opoku Prempeh NCCE, EC must work against electoral violence – Napo charges The Member of Parliament for Manhyia, Dr Matthew
Opoku Prempeh says the National Commission for
Civic Education (NCCE) and the Electoral
Commission would share blames if they fail to
avert violence in the December elections.
He has therefore cautioned the two institutions to
be mindful of their responsibilities as bodies
enjoined by the Constitution of the Republic to
educate the populace on their civic and electoral
rights as well as their responsibilities.
According to Dr Opoku Prempeh, since these bodies
are the very first recipients of praise if
successful elections are conducted, they should as
well brace themselves for blame if the upcoming
election plunges the nation into chaos.
“They are charged with educating us on our civic
and electoral rights and responsibilities. They
cannot escape part blame, if for ignorance and
lack of education, this year’s election degenerate
into chaos, disorder and violence.”
Matthew Opoku Prempeh asked the NCCE and EC to
strive to ensure that Ghanaians are educated to
know their rights and responsibilities.
Kuuku Abban of Skyy FM reported that the MP also
called on the electorate to examine critically the
promises, ideologies and track records of those
who want to lead them.
