Suspected Thief Lynched
A SUSPECTED thief believed to be in his late 20s
was lynched early Thursday morning near the State
Housing Corporation Guest House at South Suntreso,
a suburb of Kumasi.

The deceased was tied to an electricity pole with
fractured legs and multiple wounds on his naked
lifeless body.

The suspect who could not be immediately
identified by the residents was believed to have
committed robbery with two accomplices who managed
to escape.

He was said to have been found earlier by a
neighbor who reported the case to the Assemblyman
of the area.

When DAILY GUIDE visited the scene, scores of
residents had trooped to the place to catch a
glimpse of the deceased, with some women weeping
uncontrollably.

Bamboo sticks and stones which were thought to
have been used to lynch the deceased were found
around him.

According to Osei Gyamfi Afriyie, the Assemblyman
of the area, the deceased and his two accomplices
who managed to escape were alleged to have stolen
car batteries and broken into some houses to
steal.

They were chased by some youth of the area but
luck eluded him as he was caught and beaten to
death.

Osei Gyamfi said how the residents had been
complaining about stealing of their properties in
recent times.

This, he said, might have angered some of the
youth, for which they killed the deceased.

According to him, another suspected thief was also
lynched by some people in the area about three
months ago.

He pleaded with residents, especially the youth,
to desist from carrying out instant justice on
suspects and urged them to instead arrest and hand
them over to the police for investigations.

This, he believed, would help the police in their
work, as it may also help to pursue the
perpetrators and retrieve all stolen goods from
them or arrest their accomplices.

Inspector Yaw Debrah of Suntreso Police said that
by the time the police arrived at the scene the
suspect was already dead.
