Six-goal drama; DR Congo lights AFCON 2015 with style
After weeks of huffs, puffs and whines about poor
goal scoring technique in the ongoing AFCON 2015
the first quarter final match between the two
Congos came alive with a thoroughly exciting six
goal drama with DR Congo making it to the last
four.

And all that drama was reserved only for the
second half.

DR Congo stunningly came back from two goals down
to turn the game on its head and in their favour,
scoring four goals with a little over 20 minutes
remaining.

Goalless it was at halftime and it looked like the
neighbours from Central Africa were going to sell
the same of what has been the story of the 2015
AFCON in Equatorial Guinea-sublime play, sour
finishing.

But the story will change in the second half.

Ferebory Dore capitalised on poor defensive
marking in the 55th minute, latching onto a
perfect cross from a set piece to beat Robert
Muteba Kidiaba in post for DR Congo.

Thievy Bofouma increased the tally seven minutes
later with a low rebound shot from close range.

Muteba had parried the goal bound shot on the path
of Bifouma who struck it low but hard beating two
DR Congo defenders who had all their legs
stretched but could not stop another disaster.

Congo Brazzaville were up by two goals and did not
look like a side crumbling. Coach Claude Le Roy
who formally led DR Congo into the 2012 AFCON
appeared to have read the game of his former side
quite well and looked more like continuing the
fairy tale run of the Brazzaville.

Muteba Kideaba who had picked two balls from his
net could not afford a smile, let alone his
trademark dance. He had a fight to pick with his
defence who did not look too organised.

But the story will change in dramatic fashion.

Diemerci Mbokani, with a confidently delicate
touch from close range, gave DR Congo a reason to
hope, to believe that a comeback was possible.

Bolasi who was always a slippery customer on the
left of the DR Congo attack, had rounded off his
marker perfectly before whipping in a cut-back
cross for Mbokani to finish.

In the 74th minute DR Congo were back in it and it
was Bokila who made up for his earlier miss with a
thunderbolt of a shot.

His quick turn was stupendous and his finish
spectacular. Game on it was for the Congos.

With eight minutes left DR Congo took the shocking
lead thanks to a powerful header from Joel Mphela.
The striker knocked home an immaculate freekick to
underline their superiority over their
neighbours.

Diemerci Mbokani, finished off the comeback rout
with his second and a cool tap in after shoving
past two defenders.

It would be cruel for Congo Brazzaville who gave
everything but got nothing in return. 4-2 it ended
in favour of DR Congo who makes it to the last
four of the AFCON 2015.
