Gov't's economic policy remians unchanged – General Mosquito
The General Secretary of the ruling National
Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu-Nketia
says the government's economic direction and
policy will remain fundamentally the same despite
the swearing-in of a new Vice-President who will
be heading the Economic Management team.

Mr Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, according to Mr
Aiedu-Nketia, is not expected to do anything
radically different from what had been started by
the government.

Following the appointment of the former Governor
of the Bank of Ghana
as Vice-President, some analysts have argued that
with barely five months to the 2012 general
elections, Mr Amissah-Arthur cannot do anything
significantly different in the area of the economy
despite his credentials as a renowned economist.

Speaking on Joy FM's Super Morning Show Tuesday,
the NDC General Secretary said arguments were
moot.

“It mustn’t be seen as if nothing was happening.
He is just coming to fill in a position to ensure
that whatever is on course is completed,” he
said.

He explained that, the Vice President “is coming
to continue with work that has been started so it
mustn’t be seen as if he is going to use five
months to begin any programme from starters.”

Touching on Amissah-Arthur’s vetting Monday, he
said the overall quality of questions that were
asked were good and the answers “were equally
impressive.”

Responding to public dissent that greeted Mr
Amissah-Arthur’s appointment, Asiedu-Nketia said
people were entitled to their views because “that
is what democracy is all about.”

“I wouldn’t fault anybody for expressing their
views in such a manner. What is important is that
we now have taken the decision and everybody would
have to fall in line to ensure that we give
maximum support to the new Vice President to
perform his role,” he stated.
