President John Mahama prayed before the cabinet meeting

Our adversity would be turned into opportunity; President John Mahama prays
President John Mahama in his first day in office
as president has led cabinet into prayer as was
the tradition of the late president John Mills.

Ministers, senior party officials, clad in red and
black were in a somber mood, some still crying and
shocked about the death of the president, Joy News
Presidential Correspondent Seth Kwame Boateng
reported.

Press men were allowed into the cabinet meeting at
least for the opening prayer.

The president prayed that this adversity that has
hit the country shall be turned into opportunity
for the masses of Ghanaians, Kwame Boateng
reported.

Flags were flying at half mast as directed by the
president shortly after he was sworn-in, as other
castle workers sob in pain over the death of the
late president.

President John Mahama has cancelled his day’s
activities, including a trip to Tamale.

Elsewhere, Parliament has adjourned prematurely to
pay respect to the late president.

Majority Leader Cletus Avoka who moved the motion
in Parliament said members were not in the right
mood to conduct proceedings of the house.

The atmosphere was no different at the Castle as
MPs mourn the shocking death of the president.

Joy News’ Francisca Forson who is stationed at the
residence of the late president said there was
very little activity with few people in front of
his Regimanuel estate residence.

Quite unusual, however, was the heavy security at
the residence, she reported.

Hannah Odame of Joy news said supporters with red
arm bands have besieged the NDC Head quarters with
devastation written all over their faces.

Meanwhile the party has released a statement
asking all supporters to remain calm.

Signed by the General Secretary Johnson Asiedu
Nketia the statement said the National Executive
Council of the party will meet to discuss the
funeral arrangement.
