CPP shocked at sudden death of President Mills
The Convention Peoples Party (CPP) has expressed
shock at the sudden death of President J.E.A
Mills.

The party’s Presidential Candidate Dr Abu Sakara,
the Chair and Leader Hon Samia Yaba Nkrumah, the
General Secretary Mr Ivor Kobina Greenstreet and
leading members of the party including Prof Edmund
Delle and Prof Agyeman Badu Akosa have in various
media interviews sent messages of condolence to
the family and expressed their shock and sadness
at the loss of the President of the Republic.

The Party wishes to formally extend its
condolences to the First Lady Mrs Naadu Mills, the
Mills family and to the nation.

We plead with the nation to remain calm as the
Constitutional process takes its course with the
swearing in of a new H.E. President John Dramani
Mahama.

President Mills as an Academician, Vice President
and President distinguished himself as great
public servant with humility, gentleness and
fairness.

He will be remembered by many as a President of
peace who at various critical points stood firm to
preserve life particularly that of Ghanaian
security personnel in his refusal to send troops
abroad.

He will also be remembered for his strong stance
on Ghana’s oil rights against Kosmos Energy’s
planned deal with ExxonMobil.

As Nkrumahists we acknowledge and value his
personal commitment to ensuring the achievements
of Dr Kwame Nkrumah are remembered and that those
achievements are valued and honoured.

We are thus grateful for his initiation of Dr
Nkrumah’s Birthday – September 21st, as Founder’s
Day, celebrated as a National Holiday in Ghana.
His push for Dr Nkrumah’s image on the “Two Ghana
Cedi” note.

His presence at the unveiling of Dr Nkrumah’s
bronze statue outside the AU Building in Addis
Ababa was appreciated by all Nkrumahists.

The loss of President Mills is a great loss to the
nation at this critical moment of the country’s
democratic development and the CPP stands ready to
help overcome any challenges that lie ahead in the
coming weeks and months as we head towards the
next elections.

We join Ghanaians to mourn President Mills in
unity to demonstrate to the rest of the world that
even in political diversity we stand together in
fitting tribute to the memory of our late
President. His humble, selfless and peaceful
service to mother Ghana should be at the forefront
of all our thoughts at this time.

We must also remember at this time that we are one
people with one country and one destiny.

The National flag alongside the CPP flag at the
CPP National Headquarters hangs at half-mast in
honour and respect.

Long Live Ghana!!!
