NDC Needs Unity Group Friends for Peace and Unity - an offshoot of the
NDC in the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA)
Municipality - has said the party now needs unity
and not personal aggrandisement of individual
credentials to win in the December elections.
Reacting to a statement issued by “Friends of Dr
Ato Quarshie”, which agitated for him to contest
the KEEA constituency seat as an independent
candidate, a spokesperson for Friends for Peace
and Unity described the call by the former
Minister as a serious disservice to the NDC.
In an interaction with the press at Abrem Agona, a
spokesperson for Friends for Peace and Unity, Mr
Kwame Owusu, asked members of the party in the
constituency to be guided, and learn from why the
NDC lost the parliamentary seat in the Agona West
in the 2008 elections.
Mr Owusu said the NDC lost the seat because one of
its members who contested as an independent
candidate split the votes.
He said Dr J.S. Annan convincingly beat Dr Ato
Quarshie at the primary, an indication that Dr
Annan enjoyed popular support amongst the rank and
file of the party in the constituency.
He asked the so-called Friends of Dr Ato Quarshie
not to peddle the false propaganda that Dr Annan
was not a good material to retain the seat for the
NDC, adding that the group should not see the NDC
as a personal property but as a collectively owned
entity, bigger than the aspirations and ambitions
of any particular group or individual.
He called for the support of all party members in
the constituency to support Dr Annan to ensure a
resounding victory for the President, Professor
Mills, and the party in the December elections. Source - Daily Graphic
