Overloaded driver in police grips The Cape Coast Police are holding a 32-year old
truck driver for overloading and reckless
driving.
His KIA Rhino truck with registration number GR
5672-10 loaded with hardware is said to have
veered off the road lane and fallen o its side
thus getting damaged beyond repairs at the Pedu
traffic light intersection in the Central Regional
capital Cape Coast.
The Police blame break failure for the accident
but insist John Essien, the driver, will be made
to answer for overloading the vehicle.
The incident also destroyed a KIA Sephia taxi with
registration number CR 19-10 which was nearby.
Central Regional Commander of the Motor Traffic
and Transport Unit (MTTU), Superintendent Paul
Adu-Hene said the Driver and Vehicle Licensing
Authority (DVLA) will be asked to conduct an
examination on the vehicle adding the findings
will determine their next line of action.
Superintendent Adu-Hene asked drivers plying the
Accra-Cape Coast –Takoradi route to respect road
traffic rules.
Still in the region, a section of market women
from the Kotokoraba Market have complained about
insecurity in the market.
The traders cited continuous cases of theft and
appealed to the Cape Coast Municipal Assembly to
beef-up security around the market.
When contacted, the Kotokoraba Police Commander,
ASP Emmanuel Tetteh, confirmed the report, saying
the Kotokoraba area and its environs were noted
for crime.
He assured measures were being put in place to
give the market women and other commuters in the
area adequate protection.
