CPP leading member blasts UK's pro-gay aid strings A leading member of the Convention People's Party,
Prof. Agyemang Badu Akosa, has said that Ghana
must hold fast to her value system which frowns on
same sex marriages and be bold enough to reject
Britain’s position on the issue.
The British Prime Minister, David Cameron, in a
recent interview with BBC’s Julian Marshal
threatened to cut aid to countries that
criminalise homosexuality.
Prof. Akosa stated that what is important is that
Ghanaians are happy with their cultural system.
“They have imposed things on us for a good
number of years, a 100 years of slavery, a 150
years of colonialism and now neocolonialism and
that is for me, the limit,” the former director
general of the Ghana Health Service told Citi
News.
Prof. Akosa joins several Ghanaian leaders who
have spoken against the UK premier's stance on the
act of same sex relationship, which has sparked
uproar in the country in recent times.
“If they [Britain] accept those things, then
good luck to them. As far as we are concerned our
value and cultural system does not accept this,”
Prof. Akosa added.
Most political divides in Ghana seem to have
united on the issue.
The second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Prof.
Mike Ocquaye, earlier also described the threat as
“satanic”.
