Ensure Equitable Distribution Of YES Fund
The Youth Institute for Democratic Initiative
(YIDI-GHANA ), wishes to congratulate President
John Mahama and government for setting up the
Youth Enterprise Support (YES ) fund to help
tackle the menace of graduate and youth
unemployment in the country. In a country where
it's future leaders the youth, have turned to
streetism due to lack of jobs and difficulties in
acquiring start up capital, this initiative can
only be praised by a youth hungry for success.

YIDI Ghana however appeals to government to ensure
the equitable and fair distribution of the Gh¢10
million seed capital devoid of partisan
considerations. Deserving Ghanaian youth with
creative entrepreneurship abilities must equally
be considered irrespective of party affiliation or
region of birth.

We believe strongly that the success of this
initiative will be measured by the success of the
beneficiaries hence the need for selecting the
right and qualified people to access the fund to
ensure it's success.

Again,YIDI Ghana is unhappy about government's
decision to set up another secretariat to manage a
fund for the Youth when the office of the National
Youth Authority is still functional and existent.

Government could have saved enough money as staff
of the National Youth Authority are already on
government payroll and as such wouldn't require
government spending millions on setting up new
offices and paying new staff to manage the fund.

Finally we call on government to consider
increasing the seed capital for the fund to
increase the number of beneficiaries. The Gh¢ 10
million is good but highly inadequate for a
country with a youthful population of 15 million.

We also call on the youth of Ghana to adequately
prepare themselves with feasible business plans
and proposals in order to access the fund.

God bless our homeland Ghana and make the youth
great and strong.

Signed.......

Michael Kwadwo Nketiah
