Ursula Owusu must he doing something right!!!
I have observed with keen interest the incessant
attacks on Ursula Owusu by Ministers of state, NDC
party functionaries and sympathizers and the NDC
press, and have come to the conclusion that it can
only be because she is so effective in countering
their vile propaganda and taking the fight to
them. When they accuse the NPP of moral turpitude,
she gives them concrete examples of worse behavior
by their revered leaders and sends them reeling.

Her intelligence, wit, ability to think on her
feet, courageousness and boldness has totally
confounded the NDC and none of the weapons they
have used against her has worked. Ursula, in both
the Twi and English languages, has almost
singlehandedly destroyed the NDC propaganda
machinery convincingly and exposed their lies,
shallowness of thought, bankruptcy of ideas,
incompetence and inefficiency to the entire
Ghanaian populace. She is undoubtedly, one of the
foremost female political leaders in Ghana at the
moment, and is a looked up to and admired by most
people for her courage and brilliance, much to the
consternation of the NDC.

She has fought lies with the truth, insults with
insightful analysis and exposed negative NDC
propaganda with simple but graphic facts and
illustrations. Ursula is admired across the length
and breadth of the country and her in depth
analysis is quoted in boardrooms and bedrooms, to
the chagrin of the NDC, who just wish she would
shut up.

I wonder what motivates her and how she can still
continue to fight to uphold truth and decency in
our public political discourse despite the barrage
of insults she has to endure daily.

Has she really insulted the President or is it a
matter of exposing the uncomfortable and
unpalatable truths that the President and his
handlers would rather remain hidden, particularly
about his rather shabby treatment of his only son,
and the exposure of his acquisition of government
land among other things. How can the NDC label the
NPP as thieves of government lands when their own
leaders have bought even more? Which people are
acquiring the Ghana @ 50 properties constructed or
purchased by the Kufuor administration and how
transparent is the process? Ursula has exposed the
NDC lies about Akufo-Addo and drugs and ridiculed
their vile propaganda about his morality or lack
of it by reminding them of the moral fibre of the
Vice President and his reputed inability to zip
up.

Ursula and other discerning analysts have exposed
the human rights abuses of the current government,
their rampant flouting of the constitution, abuse
of due process, lack of foresight and planning,
sheer inefficiency and cluelessness. It is no
wonder they have made her a prime target for their
verbal abuse and vile insults.

The latest tactic in the ‘shoot Ursula down’
campaign of the NDC is to spread the false rumor
that she is being seriously considered as running
mate of the NPP flagbearer. Even the likes of
Kwesi Pratt have repeated that NDC concocted rumor
and used it as a platform to launch further
attacks on and denigrate Ursula. The most naďve
observer of the contemporary political scene in
Ghana knows that it will be politically suicidal
for the NPP to choose a flagbearer and running
mate from one region of Ghana and one ethnic
group. Ursula is an Akyem from the Eastern region
of Ghana, just as the NPP flagbearer, and the
longstanding tradition of the NPP has been to
choose a running mate from the northern part of
the country! This simple fact alone makes this
latest infantile NDC propaganda pathetic and
laughable. It however exposes their awareness of
the stature Ursula has attained in our
contemporary politics and how much they fear her.

Instead of vilifying her and heaping insults on
her head, the NDC ought to encourage more women to
engage in active politics by stopping the personal
insults and attacks on her, as this serves to put
off a large number of Ghanaian women who consider
Ursula a mentor and role model. Like her or hate
her, Ursula is a shining example of an outspoken,
articulate, intelligent, bold and passionate
Ghanaian woman, a woman many would like to emulate
as she inspires. I am one of her ardent admirers
and can only conclude that to merit such sustained
attack from the NDC, Ursula really must be doing
something right!
